Ratcliffe-on-Soar – a vision to transform one of the UK’s last coal-fired power stations into a technology, advanced manufacturing and energy hub.
In line with government policy, the coal-fired power station sites owned by Uniper, will stop generating electricity by October 2024.

Uniper is currently working with regional stakeholders, including the Midlands Engine, to develop a vision for this significant site that could see it become an energy hub for innovation and business, creating up to 10,000 jobs.

Ideally located close to the proposed HS2 station, the M1, Parkway station and the expanding East Midlands Airport, the land offers a prime development opportunity.
The formation of a locally led development corporation provides the opportunity for increased ambition as it will sit within a bigger, more strategic picture.

Planning anticipates low-carbon energy production, storage and distribution, the hosting of manufacturing businesses and opportunities for gigafactories for battery and electric vehicle manufacturing.
